Simple to Install, Use and Maintain

The Resource Monitor™ trial is a fully functional three-node system with a 15 day Trial period. Just follow the steps below for installation.

Do not install Resource Monitor and PCMonitor on the same system.

  1. Print this page for reference during the installation process.
  2. Click here to download the software (23MB) to a workstation on your network.
  3. Create a network share on a server setting permissions for read and write access.

** If you would like to test the product in a non network environment (same system installation), create a test folder on your local drive and select that folder during the installation process. Make sure you select/install the Administrative and Monitoring clients at the same time during the installation program.**

  1. Do not install from a server. Install from a user's workstation.
  2. Resource Monitor consists of three components that need to be installed.
    • The Database Warehouse (To be installed on the network share for multiple monitoring clients to report or to your local drive for non network environment test)
    • An Administrative Client
    • The Monitoring Client
  3. Install the administrative client first. During the installation program, the Database Warehouse will be created if it does not already exist.
  4. Install the monitoring client on any workstation that has access to the network share. Use My Network Places to browse to the network share.
  5. If your share does not appear in Network Neighborhood, you have the following options.
    • Use a mapped drive when browsing for the Data Warehouse. The installation program will try to create a UNC path which the client will use when reporting information to the Database Warehouse. You do not need to keep the mapped drive reference when running the client after it is installed.
    • If the client fails to report, edit the file RM.ini located in the folder, C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Msapps\RM folder. Insert a UNC path (like: Path=\\OURSERVERNAME\OURSHARENAME under the [DBPath] section.
    • The folder might be hidden. If so, select Tools>Options from the explorer menu and check off the link to enable to view hidden files and folders.
  6. For more assistance, please review the FAQ page or the on-line documentation for "Installation of Monitoring Client" and "Troubleshooting."
  7. Please read all the read me files during the install programs to insure a successful installation.
  8. Press F1 in the administrative client for additional help.
